The "Bible" for working on cars. Chiltons. I have had this book since 1982. Real glad I kept it all these years.
Chase putting on the new spark plug wires. Notice the book is open to the fireing order page. We had the order off by one. Once we moved every wire counter clockwise one time things were much better. the book showed it half way between were we started and were it really belonged.
Chase tightening up the carb. Nice thing about this truck as you can see, you can climb right into the engine area.
engine, as you can see the carb is sitting without an air cleaner. Its been this way since the mid 80's. We bought a new carb and installed on friday. The carb cost 103 bucks rebuilt by Holley. a rebuild kit cost 30 bucks. I tried rebuilding this carb back in 82 or 83 and failed bad, and ended up taking it somewere. Figured once was enough.

Chase and I drove to Midland Friday late afternoon getting there about 8:30 pm.
The next morning we went out to my buddies shop. My buddie had gone to the Watts (friends that were storing it in there backyard until the city told them they couldnt) and he had picked it up with his tow truck.
The truck tires that were on it were 24 years old, so neadless to say we needed new ones. My buddie had several sets to chose from and Chase picked the ones that are on it in the pictures.
Chase and I changed the tires out and then we loaded it on the trailer. That was an adventure in itself. We actually had to put a smaller tire on the front right so we could get the truck on the trailer, otherwise it was too wide.
The following pictures were all taken by Chase with my camera.
For those that dont know old cars and there condition other than "its old" this truck is in awesome shape.
2 rust spots, one on each fender, very common with 65 chevy. It needs a new hood, and a new tailgate. The engine is all there and might run with minimal work.
The interior needs new seats, dash, heater plenum and mirror.
We will make a list of know needed parts and publish it here as we go.
Today we got the truck in the garage, and chase changed the spare we had put on the front back to the matching tire. He got to use the new jack we bought and he used my air impact wrench. He thought he was in the pits at nascar!
Side right after loading it on the trailer.

Coming soon to a PC near you!
Dad and Son are going to restore to driving order the 1965 chevy pickup that Grandpa bought back in the late 70's and then sold to his son (me) who then sold it back to him (2 or 3 times I think!) who has since sold it to his grandson.
We are going to get it this weekend from Midland and trailer it back here (Joshua)
Its in real bad shape. We will post pictures and stories as we go along.
